FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE AND THE DECLINE OF POSTMODERNISM
The emergence of postmodernism in the philosophy of the 20th century changed the evaluation of Friedrich Nietzsche fundamentally. His voluntarism – subjectivism, perspectivism and moral nihilism – appealed to a philosophy that rejected the analytical approach after the Frege-Russell legacy. Living in a Saussure world of webs of words, only de-construction could harness theoretical chaos. However, Nietzsche’s theory of so- cial stratification sits very badly with postmodernism. Maybe the new humanitarianism in the making will reduce the admi- ration for him?
